Teen beaten in Six Flags attack has emergency surgery

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 15-year-old who was beaten outside Six Flags amusement park had emergency surgery Tuesday morning to remove a portion of his skull, officials said.

Doctors had to remove a portion of his skull due to life-threatening swelling. He's expected to be in a medically induced come for some time in hope the swelling can go down enough for his brain to heal and for him to survive.

The teen was attacked during an outbreak of mayhem outside Six Flags Saturday that may have been inspired by a Hollywood movie, according to witnesses.

"They were hearing people yell "Purge," "Purge," said Zina Pierre, a spokeswoman for the injured boy's family.

"The Purge" is a 2013 movie by Universal Pictures that depicts masked characters and chaos during the "one night a year" that "all crime is legal."

Witnesses describe chaos at Six Flags' 'Fright Fest'

LARGO, Md. (WUSA9) -- Fright Fest lived up to its name not because of how scary it was inside the Six Flags amusement Park in Largo, but because of what happened out in the parking lot.

Witnesses say fights broke out Saturday night after the amusement park closed.

Three teenagers were injured and there was a traffic nightmare outside Six Flags as police were arriving and parents frantically tried to reunite with their children.

As a result the park increased security Sunday night.

Katrina Walker was at the park to pick up her son, Caleb, who had been celebrating his 15th birthday. But that celebration she said, ended in chaos: "I heard one or two gunshots, maybe three gun shots. I heard it. They came, all the police cars."

Walker says kids ran out of the park saying there was also a stabbing, but police will not confirm that report.
