UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- An Upper Marlboro mother was stabbed and killed while talking to her friend on the phone by a man who was inside her home waiting for her, according to charging documents.

Police say Mitchell Cole hid inside Amanda Jones' home in the 900 block of Andean Goose Way for about an hour before he stabbed her at around 9:15 Monday evening.

The friend on the other line heard screams and a struggle and then the call dropped.

About 25 minutes later, police say they got a call from someone concerned about Jones, 56. Officers checked her house, found nothing out of the ordinary and left, the documents say.

The next morning, Jones' daughter found her mother's body on the basement floor covered in blood.

Mitchell Cole, 56, of the 3700 block of Acquinsicke Place in White Plans, Md. has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to Jones' death.

Police say Jones and Cole, who is being held on no-bond, used to be in a relationship.

A vigil is expected to be held Friday evening outside Jones' home.
