Giving Thanks and Giving Back: 2011 Horton Kids Cocktails and Crooners

November 3, 2011-- Washington, DC.  Thursday night in Washington was all about giving back and giving thanks at the House of Sweden at the "Horton's Kids 2011 Give Thanks Give Back Fundraiser:  Cocktails & Crooners" in Georgetown.  It’s held each year to thank the many volunteer tutors, mentors, board members, and supporters who help enrich the lives of kids that reside in Ward 8 in Washington.

Horton’s Kids is a 501(c)3 mission is to educate and empower the children of Washington, DC’s Ward 8 by providing comprehensive, direct services which improve the quality of their daily lives and nurture their desire and ability to succeed. These services include tutoring and mentoring along with a host of other wrap around services benefiting children the Anacostia neighborhood.

Washington D.C.’s Largest and Oldest Greek Festival
Celebrates 51st Anniversary in Sept.

 The Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church festival celebrates their 51st annual festival, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16, 17 and 18, 2011, from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday (rain or shine). The largest and oldest DC Greek Festival is located at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at the corner of 16th and Upshur streets in Washington, D.C. Admission is FREE.

Maryland's 2011 ADA Celebration Comes To Prince George's County

 

Marylanders from across the State joined in the statewide celebration of the 21st Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Held at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland College Park, the event will focus on how far society has come in promoting the rights and community inclusion of people with disabilities in their efforts to lead productive, meaningful and independent lives.

On Wednesday, July 20th, You won't have to haul out the suitcase, load up the car, worry about traffic, or answer the question "Are we there yet?" Join NCM as we bring an outdoor adventure to the Launch Zone. In collaboration with our friends from REI Outreach, feel like you're in the great outdoors by discovering the uses of various camping equipment, maneuvering through tents, and learning the fun aspects of camping in nature.

Also enjoy hands-on exploration of deer and black bear tracks from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
