CityDance DREAM Program Performs On Big Stage

CityDance DREAM Program Performs On Big Stage

This past Tuesday, March 8, 144 students from the District and Prince George’s County, Maryland who participate in the D.C. CityDance DREAM after-school outreach program performed a six-minute dance routine at halftime of the Washington Wizards game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

CityDance, which was founded in 1996, is a professional dance company and a conservatory, training school that offers free community dance and literacy programs to children throughout the D.C. area, taught by CityDance Ensemble members.  Tuesday evening marked the sixth year that the DREAM program students have performed at the Verizon Center.

The after-school program combines dance lessons with reading and writing help, something that DREAM teacher Charonne Butler believes is incredibly beneficial to the students.

Local Bridal Shop Holds Wedding Gown Giveaway for Military Brides and Fiancés of Servicemen

Heidi Janson founded Brides Across America in 2007. This program continues to grow each year and has given away 5,000 designer wedding gowns to military brides and fiancés of servicemen to date. This week, Brides Across America, is hosting gown giveaways locally in Upper Malboro, Maryland and Manassas, Virginia. They are also holding giveaways this week in Oklahoma City and Houston, Texas.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, especially for someone in active duty or with a loved one overseas. Brides Across America and local bridal stores across the country are saluting our troops by holding these wedding gown giveaways. Jeanette’s Bride ‘N Tux Boutique in Manassas, VA, is participating in the event for the first time this year. The manager, Jill Eckert, said, “This is new and exciting. We will see how it turns out!”
