Bail Denied For Lanham Murder Suspects

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA) - A Maryland Judge denied bail Monday for two people suspected of killing two children and two women in Lanham, Md., last Friday.

43-year-old Darrel Bellard and 18-year-old Tkeisha Gilmer will have a public defender appointed. The judge also informed them that each count of murder carries the possibility of the death sentence. However, the Prince Georges County States Attorney's office has not decided if it will seek the death penalty when the trial begins in early September.

Prince George's County police said the two suspects, described by sources as marijuana couriers from Texas, got into a dispute over drug debts and that led to the deaths.

Mayor Questions Sheriff Over Shooting Death Of Rottweiler

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA) -- Prince George's County Sheriff's Deputies shot and killed a 2-year-old Rottweiler during an eviction. Mayor Cheye Calvo, Berwyn Heights, says deputies should have allowed Animal Control to get the dog first.

Donya Williams admits she was overwhelmed, and late paying her rent. But it's her 2-year-old dog Kato that paid the price.

Sheriff's Deputies shot and killed Kato Friday when they entered Williams' home to serve a court-ordered eviction notice. Williams and her four children weren't at home.

"He would have barked," Williams says.

Sgt. Yakeisha Hines says Kato did not bark, and officers weren't sure whether the dog was home, until he charged at them during a safety sweep of the home.

She says the deputies recently went through mandatory training about how to respond to dogs. She says the deputies made a commotion while entering the home, but the dog did not respond.
